Armed or unarmed: how we decide.
Most properties do not need an armed officer, and we will say so. Arming a post raises cost and liability, so it should answer a real threat.
Unarmed officers fit when
- The goal is presence, access control and early reporting
- The property is an office, retail center, HOA, apartment community or school
- Incidents so far are theft, trespass, loitering or vandalism
$18 to $35 per hour.
Armed officers fit when
- Cash, jewelry, cannabis, firearms or pharmaceuticals are on site
- There has been a credible threat or an armed incident
- Your insurer or contract requires it
$28 to $55 per hour. More on armed guards
What every post includes.
These are not upgrades. They come with every contract, whatever the size.
Post orders written for your property
Michael walks the site and writes the instructions himself: what to check, when, who to call, what to do about the things that have already gone wrong there.
The same officers
People assigned to your site, not whoever was free that night. They learn which gate sticks and which car does not belong.
A written report after every shift
Times, observations, actions taken and dated photos. Reviewed by a supervisor, then sent to whoever you name.
Supervisor spot checks
Unannounced visits, logged in the report, so you never have to wonder whether anyone was awake.
A filled shift
If an officer cannot make it, a supervisor covers the post. You do not find out from a tenant.
One phone number that reaches the owner
Questions, schedule changes and complaints go to Michael, not a regional queue.
From first call to first shift.

Michael walks the site
He looks at access points, lighting, past incidents and who comes and goes, then writes post orders specific to your property.
You get one fixed price in writing
Usually within two hours of the call for a standard post. No surprise holiday or overtime lines later.
The same officers show up
Most posts start within 24 to 48 hours. Officers are assigned to your site so they learn it.
A report arrives after every shift
Times, observations, actions and dated photos, reviewed by a supervisor before it reaches you.
One firm, two state licenses.
We hold a Private Patrol Operator license (PPO 14929) for guard services and a Private Investigator license (PI 23720). When a guard post turns up something that needs investigating, such as internal theft or a pattern of break-ins, the same firm can gather the evidence.
Common questions
How much do security guards cost in San Diego?
Unarmed guards cost $18 to $35 per hour and armed guards $28 to $55 per hour at MT Security. Longer contracts and more weekly hours sit at the low end. One-time jobs, overnight, holiday and last-minute shifts sit higher. There is a four-hour minimum.
Can I hire a guard for just one night?
Yes. One-time and short-term posts are available with a four-hour minimum. Same-day requests are filled when an officer is available.
Are your guards licensed?
Yes. Every officer holds a current California guard card issued by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Armed officers also hold a BSIS exposed firearm permit. The company is licensed as Private Patrol Operator PPO 14929.
Will I get the same guard every shift?
That is the goal on every contract. Officers are assigned to a site, and the same small team covers days off. Rotating strangers is the most common complaint we hear about other companies.
What is in the shift report?
Arrival and departure times, each patrol round, anything unusual, what the officer did about it, who was notified, and dated photos. Incidents get their own written report within 24 hours.
Do you require a long-term contract?
No. Month-to-month service is available. Annual agreements earn a lower hourly rate.
